Robert Ljungberg specialises in European patents, patent litigation,
patent prosecution, opposition proceeding before the European Patent Office
and EU design applications. His work covers a broad range of technologies
for, for example, telecommunication companies, automotive manufacturers,
medical device manufacturers, paper industry and related products, packaging
industry, and patents for “business methods implemented by software”.
As a former examiner at the EPO, he has extensive knowledge of the internal
structure and proceedings within the EPO. This knowledge results in quick
proceedings to achieve a granted application and solutions to most “impossible”
applications. Clients benefit from his wealthy experience of conducting
oppositions before the EPO, because he is one of the few who has experience
from within opposition divisions of the EPO as well as before opposition
divisions. He is particularly familiar with prior art searches and the
European and international classification systems. Worth mentioning is
also his knowledge of national intellectual property law and registers
of many EU member states, especially the Nordic states.
Mr. Ljungberg studied mechanical engineering at the Institute of Technology
in Linköping, Sweden, concentrating on computer technology. In his career
with the EPO, he focused on such technical areas as machine tools and
robotics, and also worked on applications involving paper products, packaging,
automotive equipment, and medical devices.
Mr. Ljungberg speaks English, German, French, Swedish, and Dutch, and
has a working knowledge of several other languages.
