Anna Pezzoli’s core area of expertise lies within the field of chemistry, with an emphasis on organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical technologies. She has more than 20 years of experience in creating and managing worldwide patent portfolios around new chemical entities, acting as an in-house attorney of multinational company GlaxoSmithKline.
Her experience has involved all aspects of the preparation and prosecution of European patent and foreign patent application, patent drafting of NCE and secondary patents (crystalline form, new therapeutic use, formulation, method of manufacturing), Freedom to Operate (FTO) opinions, Supplementary Patent Certificate (SPC) strategies, as well as due diligence, drafting license agreements, validity and infringement assessments. She takes advantage of the experience gained in in-house worldwide portfolio management, having worked closely with universities and companies to develop a suitable intellectual property strategy.
Anna completed a Masters degree in Chemistry at the University of Padova (Italy) in 1983. After graduating, she worked as a scientist, firstly at Padova University in the peptide chemistry field and then for Glaxo R&D as a medicinal chemistry scientist. She took a Postgraduate Master Degree in Organic Chemistry in 1992.
Having decided to make the move into intellectual property, she joined Glaxo’s legal department and later Glaxo Wellcome then GlaxoSmithKline global patents department, based in Verona.
Anna joined Murgitroyd in January 2011 and is based in the firm’s Milan office as well as in Verona. She is a member of Murgitroyd’s Supplementary Protection Certificate (SPC) team.
