Eric Ede studied Chemistry at Strathclyde University, Glasgow. He entered the patent profession on graduating, accepting a training position with a leading independent Scottish firm in 1978. Having qualified in the UK before the European Patent Office, Eric turned his attention to the study of Scots law.
He remained active in the development of the firm, holding the role of head of patents for over 13 years. However, in 2005 Eric moved to a rapidly-developing Scottish patent firm, which was subsequently acquired by Murgitroyd in 2008.
Eric’s lengthy career has made him a prominent adviser for both industry and academic institutions. He deals with a wide range of technologies, including oil and gas exploration and production, petrochemicals, mining and earthworks, commercial explosives, human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, clinical chemistry, diagnostics, food technology and medical devices.
Operating primarily from Murgitroyd’s Glasgow office, Eric has extensive experience of practice before the European Patent Office, and is a member of Murgitroyd’s opposition and appeals team and the licensing team.
