After completing a Masters degree in Pharmacology and an MSc in biochemistry at the University of Nice, Fabien Richaud did a six-month internship at leading French IP Firm Cabinet Lavoix in Lyon. While there, he acquired the basics in patent-related matters.
He then went on to study intellectual property at the International Centre of Intellectual Property of Strasbourg, where he gained an honours qualification in patents, trade marks and design. After graduating, Fabien worked for approximately six months as an in-house patent specialist at Laboratoires Besins International. This pharmaceutical company specialises in the production of innovative products, notably in the field of gynaecology, fertility and obstetrics, men’s health and nutrition. There, Fabien had the opportunity to experience working in an international environment.
During this time he also had the chance to collaborate with US patent attorneys from Ascend Therapeutics, an American biopharmaceutical company who focus on the use of transdermal drug delivery technology to overcome therapeutic barriers. Over this six-month period, Fabien was involved in a number of patentability and freedom to operate studies. He attended management meetings to discuss and select the most innovative projects alongside sales executives, key players in the field of regulatory affairs and researchers.
After leaving Laboratoires Besins, Fabien joined Murgitroyd in 2005, where he quickly qualified as a European patent attorney. He now principally works in the Nice office.
Fabien has experience of drafting and prosecuting patents in various technical fields, ranging from simple mechanics to sophisticated biotechnology. Within the biotechnology area, he has particular experience of inventions in the fields of dermatology, diagnostics, biomedical, molecular biology and genetic engineering, as well as microorganism protection. He also has experience of due diligence in these technical areas.
He has been involved in opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO, as well as in French litigation proceedings, and is part of the French litigation team. Fabien represents Murgitroyd at bio conferences in the US and in Europe
