Jamie Allan

Jamie Allan is based at our Aberdeen office, heading up the alternative energy and renewables team. His practice deals with all aspects of IP law, including patents, copyrights, design rights (registered and unregistered) and trade secret/confidentiality issues.

As a European Patent Attorney, the main focus of Jamie’s day-to-day work is UK, US and European patent drafting and prosecution, helping clients identify and protect their inventions. He has extensive experience in oppositions and contentious patent office and court procedures, and in resolving less common IP issues like non-signing inventor disputes, threats liability and entitlement issues. Jamie also advises on IP licences and assignments, and is on the firm’s licensing team.

He’s spoken at numerous educational and training seminars in the UK and abroad, and has been a course tutor on several postgraduate Master of Laws LLM courses at Aberdeen University. Jamie has a long history of serving as non-executive director for several of our clients, providing them with insight into IP-related matters. In return, that’s given him first-hand experience of the issues faced by technology companies.

Jamie’s technical focus is on oil and gas technology (particularly drilling, downhole tools, valves, wellheads, well technology, risers, completion equipment and drill cuttings treatment). It also encompasses alternative energy (particularly wind, wave and tidal). His experience extends to a broad range of other mechanical, marine, offshore, subsea and engineering technologies, including medical devices and marine lifting equipment.
