David Keane is a European patent attorney and a Chartered UK patent attorney. He has an honours BEng degree in electronic engineering from the University of Limerick. His areas of expertise include electronics, telecommunications, computer architecture, computer and mobile networks, integrated circuit design, software-related technology, lighting products and digital health technology.
David moved to Murgitroyd in 2013 from the in-house patent department of a Japanese multinational company specialising in imaging and optical products. As part of his previous role, David was responsible for supporting development and business teams by providing various patent-related services, such as freedom to operate and prior art searching.
He has experience of studying third party patents and providing advice where necessary, including investigation of infringement, reviewing commercial impact, and reporting to management and business groups.
As a result of his time in-house and working as a CAD engineer for a US multinational semiconductor company, David possesses a strong commercial and pragmatic approach. He started his career in the patent profession in 2005 when he joined a leading firm of patent attorneys in London. He has worked with clients ranging from multinational companies, including large US and Japanese companies, to start-ups and so has experience of a range of different needs, practices and perspectives in relation to the patent system.
David assists clients with drafting, filing and prosecution of UK, European and international patent applications. He also represents clients in hearings at the European Patent Office. He is based in our Dublin office.
