Fiona has a background in life sciences and biotechnology. She began her career in the IP industry in 2019 and joined Murgitroyd in 2021.

Before beginning her career in IP, Fiona completed a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Genetics at the University of Edinburgh, focussing on genetic mutations in individuals with epilepsy, autism and intellectual disability. The experience during her doctorate exposed her to a wide range of techniques and fields of biology.

In addition to her academic research, Fiona also has experience working within the pharmaceutical industry, completing a one-year undergraduate placement in an international pharmaceutical company, where she aided in the research of potential treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Fiona works in the Chemistry and Biotechnology team at Murgitroyd, where she is working towards qualifying as a UK and European patent attorney. One of Fiona’s favourite aspects of the job is getting to meet inventors from a range of different sectors and work on inventions related to a variety of subject matter.
