Have you ever had a near-miss because you’ve been paying more attention to your phone than the environment around you? I remember watching a young man walk into a lamppost because he was so engrossed in his mobile phone!
Google has filed a patent which uses the location of the user to check the area for nearby accidents and to see if the user is at risk. Further, it can use the microphone to detect ambient noise that may be indicative of a potential accident, e.g. approaching engines and screeching brakes.
The system would alert the user on their phone that they are more at risk of an accident. Do you think this is a good idea? Or a step too far? Read more about the patent here.
