If you shop online, you have probably seen thousands and thousands of images photographed on white backgrounds; it’s not really an unusual thing to see.
Amazon has recently been granted a patent for their ‘Studio arrangement’. Filed in 2011 and granted approval in 2014, their patent was filed to protect their ‘innovative’ method of photography. Many believe this ‘innovative’ method is no more than taking a photo against a seamless white background.
The patent describes exactly the set-up of the lights, background material and camera they use in their high-quality photo studio in Brooklyn which produces over 19,000 images per day. However, there has been much controversy online as to whether this patent should ever have been granted.
What do you think –a step too far or a practical way to protect your business?
