The 2018 edition of Scotland’s leading university entrepreneurship programme, Converge Challenge, launches today and Murgitroyd are once again delighted to be sponsors. The programme aims to inspire staff, students and recent graduates from all Scottish universities to develop their ideas into viable and successful ventures.
The prize fund for the 2018 programme is made up of cash and in-kind business support packages and is valued at over £160,000. The finalists will also receive invaluable help across the duration of the programme with a series of workshops that will help them transition their ideas into successful businesses.
Olga Kozlova, Director of Converge Challenge said, “In 2018 we are encouraging as many staff, students and recent graduates from all our excellent Scottish Universities, to apply and take advantage of our offering that turns innovative concepts and projects into growing businesses, and helps create a new generation of entrepreneurs.”
Converge Challenge’s 2017 competition saw a record 200 entries and was won by Dave Hughes of the University of the West of Scotland. Dave develops revolutionary sensors, systems and software for low-cost, high-resolution imaging. He won the first prize which included £50,000 cash and £28,500 worth of business support that includes in-kind IP services from Murgitroyd.
Dave said, “Personally, the Converge Challenge experience, expertise and support has already been invaluable to make the transition from an academic to an entrepreneur. As a company, the support provided from the prize package will allow us to take our company, novosound, to the next level.”
From 2011 to 2016, Converge Challenge has helped 180 businesses and the training provided has meant that an incredible 78% of these businesses have survived three years later. The competition provides applicants with the opportunity to go from idea inception to creating a feasible and scalable business both nationally and abroad.
