The Autumn Edition of the Innovator Launchpad competition has come to an end with a special finalist’s event in Edinburgh yesterday (31 Jan).
Competition winners, Turtle Pack, second placed, Hoolr and third placed Alex App joined the Innovator Launchpad team, the competition sponsors and its judges to pick up their prizes and celebrate the fantastic achievements of each of the finalists.
Turtle Pack founder, Michael Harkins, used his passion for swimming to design a fun swimming aid to help remove anxiety and build confidence of young swimmers.
Michael was there to pick up his first place prize of £6,500 cash, £2,500 worth of intellectual property services from Murgitroyd, £1,500 worth of innovation funding advisory services from Leyton, a limited edition Betabrand space jacket, a professional photoshoot and some other free publicity.

Jamal Bjaly was there as well to receive his third place prize of £250 cash, £750 IP services from Murgitroyd and a free innovation advisory consultation with Leyton for his idea Alex App – a delivery mobile application offering point-to-point deliveries or pick-ups.
In the morning, Michael took part in a photoshoot as part of the free publicity element of the overall Innovator Launchpad first prize at the Summerhall multi-arts complex and events venue near The Meadows in Edinburgh with Cat Thomson Photography.
After that, it was time to head over to The Dome to meet up with Alasdair Ireland of Hoolr and Jamal Bjaly of Alex App to get some promotional shots of each of the finalists at the entrance to The Dome before everyone moved inside for the Finalist’s Lunch.
At that point, our sponsors and judges joined us in The Green Room inside The Dome as Murgitroyd’s Head of Business Development, Kevin Toner, and Director, Patents, Keith Jones handed out the prizes to our wonderful finalists.
After lunch, Michael and Keith headed over to The Scotsman’s headquarters to discuss the competition and Turtle Pack during Facebook Live interview. Watch the full video here.
