Wei Zhang
European Patent Attorney
Wei is a European patent attorney specialising in digital technology and electronics. Prior to entering into the patent profession, Wei spent many years in both academia and industry, developing complex laser technologies.
Wei received a first class Bachelor degree in Optoelectronics from the HUST in China. Upon graduation, he successfully obtained a full scholarship awarded by the ORSAS to support his PhD research on optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers at the University of Strathclyde. After his PhD, Wei continued working on a BBSRC funded interdisciplinary project which was aiming to apply advanced laser technologies to biological/medical imaging applications, e.g. multi-photon excitation microscopy. He then moved into industry and joined one of the world’s largest laser manufacturers to conduct R&D on complex ultrafast laser systems and had since been involved in the development of two market-leading laser products. Wei has authored more than a dozen of peer-reviewed scientific publications, including journal articles and conference proceedings.
The extensive R&D experience has allowed Wei to be better placed when it comes to communicating with inventors (e.g. engineers, scientists) to fully appreciate and understand each invention. As a European patent attorney, Wei assists small and large clients on patent matters and is experienced in drafting, prosecuting patent applications in a broad range of technical fields, e.g., semiconductors, optics, lasers, electronics, and software.
Wei is a Chartered Physicist of the Institute of Physics and a member of the European Patent Institute and is fluent in both Chinese (Mandarin) and English.
