Niall Hendry
Director, Patents, Mechanical Patent Practice Group Coordinator
Glasgow
Niall is a dual-qualified UK and European patent attorney. A mechanical engineering graduate, his technical expertise spans specialist areas like automotive engineering, alternative and renewable energy devices, compressors, welding systems and components, and vibration suppression and control.
Niall provides specialist advice and services with an emphasis on the drafting, prosecution and enforcement of patents worldwide. He also has a wealth of experience in filing and defending European patent oppositions before the European Patent Office.
Having joined Murgitroyd in 1997, shortly after graduating from university, Niall has since worked with a wide variety of clients, ranging from individuals and SMEs to large multinationals. His key clients today include the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment and off-highway engines (for which Niall has acted for over 20 years), and the global market leader in compressor, vacuum and blower solutions and specialised gas and fluid management systems.
Clients appreciate Niall’s commercially minded advice, fast response times and ability to explain complex issues in a way that can be readily understood and acted upon. This was reflected when Niall received a Lexology Client Choice Award in 2020 for Patent Services in the European Union.
Niall heads up our Mechanical Practice Group, coordinating workload, recruitment and working practices for around 40 professionals.
