Alec Whitwell

Alec Whitwell is an experienced Senior Patent Paralegal based in our Southampton Office. He joined Murgitroyd in 2025, having first entered the IP industry in 2001. He is hugely experienced in procedural matters in the UK and Europe and has an all-round knowledge of formalities requirements concerning GB, EP, PCT, and foreign patents.

Alec has combined his Paralegal knowledge with his IT expertise to lead on digital transformation and database migration projects. As a System Specialist in the IP field, he has previously developed advanced functions and automation on IP records databases, created workflow tools, designed and configured systems, and implemented streamlined internal processes. Alec has also delivered company-wide training on best practices and has led on strategic development and query resolution.

Alec’s responsibilities include filing design and patent applications in the United Kingdom, Europe, and foreign territories, liaising directly with overseas associates, and reporting on prosecution and formalities matters to clients globally.
