Ian Byworth is a dual-practising trade mark and patent attorney, specialising in mechanical and electrical patents with particular experience acting in the fields of energy and power tools.
Advising multinational clients in respect of patent application drafting, filing and prosecution as well as contentious matters (e.g. oppositions, revocations) and portfolio management, Ian has been a qualified patent attorney for 17 years.
Ian is also a Chartered Trademark Attorney and is experienced in all aspects of trade mark filing and prosecution, and handles contentious trade mark matters in the UK, European Community and elsewhere.
His expertise focuses in the fields of oil and gas, downhole tools, mechanical engineering and physics. Specific areas of experience are wellbore intervention technologies, plug and abandonment systems, hydromechanical downhole tools, scanning technologies, downhole tracer technology and cable management and termination systems.
Ian joined Murgitroyd as part of the addition of the UDL team to the Murgitroyd team in October 2021 and heads the Newcastle office.
