Gordon Stark, the CEO of leading European IP services provider Murgitroyd, is celebrating 25 years at the Group this month.

Gordon began his career at Murgitroyd in 1998 when he arrived as a trainee patent attorney, having recently graduated from Edinburgh University with a first class honours degree in Immunology. Just six years later he was appointed head of the Dublin office and between 2004 and 2012 managed several of the firm’s offices in Finland and Japan. In 2012 he was named as COO of the Group and then in 2020 became Murgitroyd’s CEO.

Under Gordon’s leadership, Murgitroyd has continued to grow and is an award-winning, £105m revenue generating Group with a global reach, and since 2021 has secured four acquisitions with the backing of Sovereign Capital Partners. Today, Murgitroyd is the largest IP practice in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe, employing more than 500 people across 23 offices around the world. With a growth strategy in place and a strategic transformation programme underway, Gordon’s vision for the ongoing success of the business shows no signs of letting up.

An open and inclusive leader, Gordon has instilled a people-centric culture at Murgitroyd, with a strong focus on both colleague engagement and client relationships. He is the driving force behind Murgitroyd’s sector-leading ESG agenda, ensuring sustainability, social responsibility and ethics are at the heart of the Group’s work.

Marking the 25-year milestone, Gordon said: “The last 25 years have been a fantastic journey both for me personally and for the business which I am proud to now lead. Murgitroyd is a dynamic, growing enterprise powered by a superb global team. Together, we are at the forefront of the IP sector, expanding through a combination of organic growth and carefully selected acquisitions, and delivering a greater depth of technical and legal expertise and breadth of services to support the IP needs of even the largest of businesses. Our strategic ambitions, alongside our commitment to innovation and excellence, promise to propel the Group to even greater heights in the years ahead.”
