Managing Director, Strategic IP Solutions

Michael Chernoff is an accomplished professional with a strong background in the field of intellectual property (IP). He joined Murgitroyd in 2016 as Director of IP Strategy and Portfolio Management and subsequently took on the role of Managing Director, Strategic IP Solutions in July 2020.

With 25+ years of experience in the IP industry, Michael has held key positions that have shaped his expertise. Prior to joining Murgitroyd, he served as the Chief Intellectual Property Officer of an investment bank, where he successfully managed IP strategy for the IP Development Services division of the Group. His exceptional skills in IP strategy have earned him the prestigious title of IAM 300 top IP strategist for Ten consecutive years.

Michael’s career journey began at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he worked as a Patent Examiner specializing in mobile phone and hybrid video/communication patent applications. He later assumed the role of Director of Legal Services, Patent Operations at a Fortune Global 500 company, further expanding his IP acumen.

Currently, as part of his responsibilities at Murgitroyd, Michael oversees the strategic IP solutions division, which includes the search, IP due diligence, strategic client solutions, and docketing. His leadership ensures the provision of top-notch assistance to clients in navigating the complex landscape of IP.

Michael is mainly based in our North Carolina office but also oversees our team in Managua.
