We are delighted to share that The Legal 500 has once again recognised the Murgitroyd patent and trademark teams in their annual rankings.

In the 2025 rankings, our trademark team has improved in its position, while our patents team has maintained its position this year after having moved up the rankings in the previous two years.

After months of in-depth research and analysis, by a specialist team, The Legal 500 benchmarks law firm excellence and is the leading guide to law firms and solicitors in the UK.

Several attorneys have received individual recognition in this year’s rankings for their contributions in their respective fields. Congratulations to Catherine Bonner, James Brown, Dewdney Drew, Alan Fiddes, Karen Fraser, Joanne Lecky, Jacqueline McKay, Russell Thom and Steve Waine

As part of the research and collated independently by the Legal 500 research team, Murgitroyd and our specialist attorneys received some very positive feedback:

‘My work with Murgitroyd has centred around technology deployed in the energy sector. They have exceptional strength in the area. Not only is their technical and legal expertise first-class, but they also understand the sector from a commercial and operational point of view. This allows them to give tailored support to meet their clients' needs.’

Joanne Lecky leads the trade mark team. Joanne is a unicorn in the world of trade mark law. She possesses a rare combination of legal brilliance and strategic foresight. She was able to navigate the complexities of our trade mark strategy with the grace of a seasoned negotiator and the meticulousness of a brain surgeon.'

‘A standout partner in the practice is James Brown. He shows a level of dedication to his clients which puts him amongst the most hard-working individuals that I have encountered in professional services. He is responsive and available, which allows projects to be driven forward quickly and takes pressure off of professional collaborators. His energy sector knowledge is second-to-none, enabling him to support a much wider commercial IP strategy.’

‘Dewdney Drew applies a strong common-sense approach coupled with in-depth expertise on the likely response of trade mark examiners. Following his advice, we have achieved a more robust TM portfolio than we expected to.’

Congratulations to our teams on another year of recognition, and thank you to our valued clients for their ongoing recognition of the support and strategic advice our team provides globally.
