Janine Holzer

Janine Holzer studied environmental engineering at the Technical University of Berlin and at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and she completed her diploma in the field of water technology in 1999. She went on to study for a PhD in Aircraft-borne trace gas measurements at the Institute for Atmospheric Physics at the German Aerospace Center, in cooperation with the Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich.

After completing her PhD in 2003, Janine had a post-doctorate position at the Institute for Atmosphere and Environment at the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main. During her research she participated in international projects with extended stays in South America, Australia, Asia and Europe. She is also the author and co-author of several scientific publications in the field of atmospheric physics.

Janine began her intellectual property law training in 2008, in the electrical engineering department of a renowned Munich law firm. In 2010, she joined a medium-size law firm focusing on technical fields like mechanical engineering, physics and medical technology. She was admitted to practice as a German patent attorney in September 2011, and in 2013 she passed the European qualifying examination. She joined Murgitroyd in 2014 and was appointed director in 2022.

As a patent attorney, Janine works in the fields of German and international patent prosecution, oppositions, nullity and infringement cases as well as in European proceedings before the EPO and UPC. She uses her expertise in patent drafting and further manages patent portfolios including design and trade marks. Her main technical fields of expertise are physics and environmental engineering, including water technology, measuring and chemical engineering, medicine technology, mechanical engineering, vehicle and aircraft technology.
