Peter Wilson

Director, Patents

A materials science and mechanical engineering specialist, Peter Wilson focuses on inventions relating to aerospace, automotive, agricultural engineering, advanced materials and semiconductor device materials and applications.

Peter’s wealth of experience across both industry and private practice enables him to provide proactive and commercially realistic IP advice. He has expertise in developing patent portfolios — including the preparation and prosecution of patent applications — for technology-driven small- and medium-sized companies and universities.

Peter’s practice also involves examination and opposition work for European oral proceedings, in addition to developing consistent global prosecution strategies for UK-based SMEs and the development of consistent US-led global prosecution strategies for US applicants. Peter has further specialist knowledge in matters surrounding priority and PCT procedures.

After completing a Bachelors in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Materials Science at the University of Cambridge, Peter began his IP career with the UK Ministry of Defence. Working within its research establishments for what was to become QinetiQ, Peter gained valuable experience in the handling and development of IP portfolios in structural and aerospace materials. This is also where Peter established a deep understanding of providing IP support across the full range of technology development and transfer (and other commercial business) activities.

Peter joined Murgitroyd in 2007 and was appointed Director, Patents in 2013. Prior to this, he worked in private practice in London before returning to his native North Yorkshire in 2000, where he managed the York office and UK patent business of a European IP group.
