Simon Eddowes joined Murgitroyd in December 2022 as part of the acquisition of Turnbull Lynch Intellectual Property by Murgitroyd. Simon is a European Patent Attorney and a UK Chartered Patent Attorney. Simon has a degree in Biological Sciences with honours in Microbiology from Edinburgh University. Following graduation, Simon worked for a UK based multinational household and Pharmaceutical company for eight years as a Development Microbiologist and then as a Formulation Chemist, before joining the in-house Patent Department to train as a patent attorney, eventually becoming the Manager of the Pharmaceutical Patents Department.

In 1997 Simon moved into private practice and has worked in a number of companies, becoming a Partner and subsequently of counsel in a major practice. Simon has represented clients of all sizes, from individuals and start-ups, to universities and multi-national companies; and has handled a wide range of technologies including industrial chemistry and processes, catalysts, pharmaceuticals, novel materials, biotechnology, immunology, polymer films, polymer chemistry and medical devices. During this time, Simon dealt with all aspects of intellectual property, particularly focusing on patent drafting and prosecution before the UK and European Patent Offices, patent portfolio management and freedom to operate, infringement and validity opinions.

In 2016, Simon returned to industry, working for a multi-national composites manufacturer drafting and prosecuting patent application and providing advice on freedom to operate and business development.

Simon particularly enjoys working with inventors to help them develop their ideas, and with businesses to help them to grow by exploiting their intellectual property whilst avoiding challenges from competitors. He particularly specialises in patent drafting and prosecution, oppositions and appeals, freedom to operate, patent portfolio management and IP strategy.
