Nine members of our trade marks team are recommended as Murgitroyd strikes ‘gold’ in the latest World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000 rankings for 2023.

Congratulations to Eleanor Coates, Alan Fiddes, Christian Finn, Sharon Kirby, Jacqueline McKay, Gareth Price, Mike Vettese and Steve Waine, as well as our Managing Director of Trade Marks Joanne Lecky, who are all listed as ‘Recommended Individuals’ by WTR — “the definitive ‘go-to’ resource for those seeking world-class legal trade mark expertise”.

As a firm, we rank ‘Gold’ in Scotland and ‘Silver’ as one of the top six trade mark agencies in Ireland, while being recommended for ‘prosecution and strategy’ in England.

Our appearance in the WTR 1000 rankings for 2023 is our first following the additions of UDL Intellectual Property, Hanna Moore + Curley (HMC) and Creation IP — all of which enhanced our already well-established international trade mark offering.

MD Joanne Lecky says: “I am delighted to see so many of my excellent colleagues and friends named in the WTR 1000 for 2023. This is a real testament to the talent, agility and commitment of our trade marks team at Murgitroyd.”

Highlights from WTR’s research

In WTR’s research write-up, we received commendation for offering “a comprehensive range of IP services on a truly global scale” and “a specialised IP service” as “one of the largest” managers of trade marks in the UK.

The addition of HMC was lauded as having given us “a robust Irish offering with valuable connections to the Chinese IP market”. Christian Finn and Joanne Lecky were singled out for praise — the latter for being “a regular before the UKIPO and EUIPO”.

Jacqueline McKay “has a wealth of experience in intellectual property” while Eleanor Coates “is a prosecution specialist and a regular before the UKIPO”. Mike Vettese “excels in managing international portfolios” with a focus on the music, media and entertainment industries.

Gareth Price “excels in all areas of trade marks” including “prosecution, enforcement and licensing issues”. Sharon Kirby “is an expert on brand enforcement” with Alan Fiddes recognised as “one of the most prolific attorneys when it comes to in-person litigation appearances”. Steve Waine “impresses for his trade mark, copyright and domain name work”.
